A 50 pound bag of fire clay was $12.80 and a 100 pound bag of 70 mesh silica sand was $8.52 not bad huh!!! You can make a lot of crucibles with that much material. This is the ratio I use 1:1:1 or one pound plaster, one pound silica, one pound water. so if you need to make a five pound mold you need to use 5 pounds plaster, 5 pounds silica and 5 pounds water. For my molds I use a pottery grade plaster, and 300 mesh silica.
